Fighting cancer isn’t only just a physical battle, but also an emotional and psychological one too! Unfortunately, sometimes treatment designed to help takes its toll in multiple ways. As part of our Turning Heads Series, we hope you appreciate the beauty and empowerment exhibited by Angelia Jackson (age 49).
“It’s a day-to-day process. You still wonder, why did I get it? Did I have too much coffee? Did I have too many chocolates? Too much wine? You think something must have caused you to get it. I always had everything checked once a year on my birthday and here I am!
There’s been a lot of love and support. My brother and dad call me every morning to ask if I’m okay. My sister lives right next door and my son always asks, ‘Mom, you okay?’ And then in the night they all call again to ask, ‘How you feelin’?’ And I answer, ‘So far, everything’s still working.’ We tell each other we love each other and then go to sleep. They just want to spoil me and I let them.”
We really enjoyed and highly recommend Jackson Hunsicker’s Turning Heads: Portraits of Grace, Inspiration, and Possibilities, a book designed to help reset our attitude and perceptions about cancer and demonstrate the beauty that remains despite cancer’s assault. This book makes a perfect gift for females undergoing cancer treatment.
Our gratitude, thoughts and admiration go to Angelia Jackson for her courage, words of wisdom and empowered portrait. A special thanks to Nick Vedros for his efforts shooting this inspiring portrait.
